The 529 team kicked off the 2014 event tour season with one doozy of a festival. We brought our bike theft-prevention brigade down to the world renowned Sea Otter Classic. With around 75,000 cycling enthusiasts in attendance, we talked to a lot of folks, registered a lot of bikes, and hooked up seven awesome participants with some slick new bike components. We got to see our good friends at SRAM and make a lot of new friends, too. Not to mention watch some exciting races and drool over all the latest and greatest in cycling tech.
We held raffles for a piece of this custom, Project-529-approved, mountain trail machine. We even had the Santa Cruz Hiball frame specially airbrushed just for this event by Dan Swan from Splat Designs. The prize tiers consisted of the wheelset, drivetrain, front fork, dropper post and handlebars, saddle and pedals, disc brakes, and finally the frame itself, all courtesy of our friends at SRAM, Santa Cruz Bicycles, Maxxis, SDG and Crank Brothers.
We also got to spread the good word about our petition.
Here’s the team taking a well deserved break and enjoying the festivities. Yeah.. we like to play as hard as we work!
And here was our favorite athlete, naturally.
There were tons of sights to see and we each would highly recommend checking out Sea Otter if you get the chance. There is undoubtedly something there for every type of bicycle lover, even if you are just bike-curious.
